We will hold our third and final General Membership meeting of the year at our Fall Breakfast on Tuesday, 15 September at 0730.  We will start with breakfast, followed by the meeting and then the Member/Member tournament.  Look for separate invites for both the breakfast and member/member tournament.

Here's the discussion on using an EMGA Handicap Index instead of an USGA Handicap Index for EMGA play.

  Many of you have raised this issue with me to be presented to the members. I discussed the concept of adopting an EMGA league handicap index during our lunch meeting on Thursday. This index differs from the USGA handicap index provided by GHIN. The primary distinction lies in the fact that an internal handicap index would only be calculated based on your rounds played during EMGA events, rather than all your golfing rounds that the USGA utilizes.

I have indicated that we will hold a vote on this matter at our Fall meeting breakfast on Tuesday, September 15th, for those in attendance.  You can also vote now by clicking the buttons below. Attending = EMGA Handicap Index     Not Attending = USGA Handicap Index

Before the vote, I would like to provide some discussion points that you may consider in your discussion with other members:

1. Some players exhibit significantly superior or inferior performance on their home courses compared to outside courses. An internal index would effectively capture these local performance nuances.

2. There is no requirement to maintain a USGA Handicap Index through GHIN, unless you still wish to retain one for Home and Away events, EGC tournaments, or other outside events that necessitate its use.  If you still maintain a GHIN, then all EMGA scores will still be posted to GHIN.

3. There is no longer the perception of “sandbagging” by other players, as well as manipulating scores, failing to post scores, etc. Your index is solely calculated based on EMGA rounds for EMGA play.
