H&A Announcement

; -webkit-text-stroke-width:0px”>Gentlemen,

This email announces the start of the 2026 EMGA Home & Away (H&A) season. Each year your H&A Committee coordinates with other golf clubs to set up friendly matches on courses we might not otherwise have the opportunity to play. We encourage you to review the below schedule and sign up to play in the matches you are interested in. Please review the schedule carefully because there is both a “Home” and an “Away” match, and when you sign up, you are committing to play in both rounds. We will create 12–20-man teams for each match from those that sign up and play a Home match at Eisenhower and an Away match at the hosted course. During the matches, we try to all wear the same color shirt so we will be identified as a team. There are three EMGA colored (red, white, and blue) shirts available for purchase through Don Becker, another longtime member of the EMGA. It would be nice if we all have the EMGA logo shirts, but they are not mandatory.  You can wear whatever shirt you have, but please try to wear one in the same color as the rest of the team.

Typically, the host team pays all the costs to play at their club. The cost to play in each match (both at Eisenhower and the Away club) should be around $155, but the costs have not been finalized yet this year and may vary a little. This fee covers the cost of both you and your guest and pays for your guest’s green fees, the cart, range balls, breakfast snack, lunch, prize money, hole-in-one, and your entry in the Skins competition both Home and Away. If you are not an Annual Green Fee Member, you will also need to pay your green fees prior to the match. There will usually be some sort of light breakfast snack provided and range balls will be available at the course prior to play. After the match, the host club will provide lunch while the scores are tabulated, and winners determined. At the end of the lunch, prizes will be awarded for match play and skins winners. Points will be awarded to the teams based on play and these points will determine which club wins the match.

Signups for these matches are now open in Golf Genius.  If you’re interested in playing, please go to the EMGA H&A Portal Page https://egc-2026emga.golfgenius.com sign in with your username and password, and select the H&As showing on the left-hand side of the opening page under Upcoming Rounds.  By selecting the Home date for that course, you’re signing up for both the Home and Away dates. You may notice some of our matches are on the same dates as our OPC matches and you can receive “credit” for the OPC, the appropriate Ringer and the Ike Cup when you play in the H&A match too, so don’t let these conflicts deter you from playing in the H&As. During Home matches you will be able to play from any of our Tee configurations. Please note there are two matches that are slightly different. The “Away” Heritage Eagle Bend match, scheduled for Tuesday, 26 May, will be a Shotgun start at 1230. Also, regarding the Broadmoor match on 27 May,  this event is the Away match with the same players from our 2025 Home match.

We will also send reminders/invitations for the individual H&A matches 6 weeks ahead of each match, so you will have more opportunities throughout the season to sign up.  The H&A Committee will select the team members and alternates (used in cases where a selected team player must drop out) 4 weeks before the match.

If you have any questions, please contact Mark Dalzell ([email protected])

EMGA – OPC Signup Process for 9 April

Members,

Greetings! Signups for the Thursday, 9 April 2026 Open Play Competition (OPC), Silver Course, will open on Tuesday. If you compete in the OPC, then $6 will be deducted from your EMGA account.

OPC:  Thursday, 9 April on the Silver Course (first tee time at 0800).

Signups start on Tuesday, 31 March at exactly 1900 hours (7PM).

Instructions:

1.  Tee Time reservations will open on Tuesday night at 7PM (1900).

2.  Sign in to the EMGA Portal page (egc-2026emga.golfgenius.com) with your username and password.  The tee sheet will open up exactly at 7:00 PM.  If you enter the site sooner, you may need to refresh your browser before seeing the tee sheet.

3.  On the portal page, go to the Tee Sheet section, and then select “Open Tee Time Registration.”

4.  Select the time you want to play.

5.  You'll be able to sign up as a single, twosome, threesome or foursome.

6.  If signing up for more than just yourself, you'll need to know the names of the other players in advance of making the tee time.  Once a name is added, no other player can select that same person (his name will be grayed out).  When finished signing up, please hit “Done” to save your tee time. You'll receive a confirmation email (it's not immediate, but it does come).

7.  After hitting the “Done” button, if you did not sign up for all four slots, the remaining slots will be open for others.

8.  If you are the initiator of the tee time and have added other players, those players are now “coupled” to you and tied to your reservation.  For a player to “decouple” themselves from the initiator, they need to first Cancel their name from the reservation before selecting any other tee time.  Do not just try to move yourself, you'll still be coupled to the initiator.

9.  When signups have not yet been closed, members can return to the Open Tee Time Registration page to cancel their registration.

10.  Signups close at 6PM on the night two days prior to the OPC.  After that time, if you need to make any changes, please text either John Henninger (719) 237-1700 or Larry Walker (719) 661-2496.

2026 EMGA Rules & Rules Refresher Contest Results

FORE!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfgfVvrN6p0

Many thanks to the FORTY-NINE members who attempted to answer at least one question during our 10-week contest.  We had two members try just once but they went 0 for 1 and were never heard from again.

Not everybody played each time and as it turned out, you had to have a perfect score to become eligible for each semi-final prize.  Here are the players who are eligible for the four prizes but they can only win one prize:

Grand Prize $50 TOPGOLF Gift Certificate:  Jimmy Traverse and Tim Marburger.  Along with Larry Walker and Don Knight, these four answered nine questions correctly. As President and Vice President, Larry and Don aren’t eligible to win the grand prize but after much whining, they’ll be eligible for the semi-final prizes. (Larry and Don would’ve gone 10 for 10 but they chose poorly on that one vs two putts from 5 feet question.)

Q1-3 Towel Magnet Prize:  Don Becker, Don Knight, Terry Lapp, Tim Marburger, Marc Sims, Phil Sosalla, Joe Staten, Fred Steffers, John Szostak, Jimmy Traverse, Mike Trivette and Larry Walker.

Q4-6 Logo Divot Repair or Pet Golf Towel:  Terry Bennett, Charles Couch, John Hayes, Terry Lapp, Tim Marburger, Kent Rodgers, Marc Sims, and Jimmy Traverse.

Q7-10 Mystery prize requiring mugshot:  Don Becker, Don Knight, and Larry Walker.

At my next OPC, we’ll do a blind draw to select the winner for the Grand Prize first, then the Q7-10, Q4-6 and Q1-3 winners.  You need not be present to win.

But we all won, didn’t we?  Got into the rules a bit.  We all got a little smarter, didn’t we?  (Well, some more than others and some not at all.)

And to show my appreciation, everybody who played gets an EMGA Member Poker Chip.

2026 EMGA Rules & Rules Refresher Final

; -webkit-text-stroke-width:0px; margin-right:0in; margin-left:0in”>

So why pretend?
This is the end
You'll have to find out for yourself
Go on ask somebody else

Why can't you just get it through your head?
It's over, it's over now
Yes, you heard me clearly now, I said
It's over, it's over now

                                -Boz Scaggs

This last question was a doozy.  I took it straight from the USGA Rules Quiz ADVANCED version so don’t feel bad if you got it wrong.  And it also ruined the last remaining perfect score…oh darn.

Let’s break it down.

Question #10.  In stroke play, a player accidentally kicks their ball in play that was visible in the general area.  OOPS! You just got a one stroke penalty for moving the ball from Rule 9.4b Penalty for…Causing it to Move.  Rule 7.4 isn't applicable since the ball was visible and you weren't searching for it.

The ball's exact original location is not known.  No problem, Rule 9.4a allows you to estimate the location to replace your original ball back into play IAW Rule 14.2 Replacing Ball on Spot.

The player drops (no, no, you’ve got to replace it!)

another ball within one club-length of, but not nearer the hole than where it lay Uh-Oh.  You’ve done screwed the pooch now. No attempt was made to estimate the original spot and replace it there.

and makes their next stroke.  The dropped ball does not come to rest on its original spot. You’ve now played from a wrong place and Rule 14.7a Playing from Wrong Place states you get the general penalty, and since it’s stroke play, that’s two strokes.

So, ball accidentally moved by player in general area = one penalty stroke, and playing from the wrong place = two penalty strokes.

My math says 1+2 = 3

USGA math says 1+2 = 2

There is this USGA “Math” Rule 1.3c(4) Applying Penalties to Multiple Breaches of the Rules which basically says you only get the higher penalty since there wasn’t an intervening event, like making a stroke, between the two infractions.

The correct ruling is that the player:

A. has no penalty

B. gets one penalty stroke

C. gets two penalty strokes

D. gets three penalty strokes

E. is Disqualified

“C” is the correct answer.

I’ll announce our contest results later today.

EMGA – 26 March 2026 OPC Results

Members,

Another great day to be on the golf course.  We had 87 players, most ever in the month of March, that played in the OPC on the Silver course.  Total purse was $522.

We had 7 players that played in Flight 1, our gross only flight.

The rest of the 80 players were evenly split over five flights by their handicap index.  Your course handicap (playing handicap) is based on your handicap index and then what set of tees you played from.

Next week, 2 Apr is another OPC on the Blue course.

Additional emails will be sent later this evening on the Blue Ringers, Silver Ringers, and Ike Cup flights that were done today.

Tidbits:

Please make sure you check in with the pro shop before playing.  We had five players that did not.

Please mark the set of tees that you played from on the paper scorecard.

The course will provide a starter for our Thursday play.

Please let us know if you have any questions.  Thanks.

EMGA – 2026 EGC Local Rules

Members,

I've attached an update to the Eisenhower Golf Course local rules for 2026.  The most notable change was for animal holes/mounding.  In previous local rules your only received relief from lie of ball or intended swing.  You now get relief from lie of ball, intended swing, and stance.

If you have any questions on this update or any rules, please send an email to our Rules and Handicapping Chair, Tom McKernan.

Thanks.
