2026 EMGA OPC 21 Apr Rule Questions from Today

FORE!

No quiz, just a few answers to rules questions I had today.

1.  No relief when your ball lies on dead grass from elk urine.

2.  When can you take relief when your ball lies next to a Sprinkler box?

  • First, the box is an Immovable Obstruction and under Rule 16.1, it's treated as a Abby-Normal (Abnormal) Course Condition.
  • Second, Free Relief is ONLY allowed if the ball touches or is in or on the obstruction or when the box interferes with the player's area of intended stance or area of intended swing.
  • Third, there is no relief even if the abnormal course condition is close enough to distract the player, or is the player's line of play.

On a side note, the EGC has Modified Local Rule (MLR) F-1, that specifies that the rocks that mark the 150 Yard distance to the green are integral parts of the golf course (and therefore not Immovable Obstructions) from which there is NO relief without penalty.

And while we're on the subject of Immovable Obstructions and MLRs, the EGC has another local rule, MLR F-5:

“Player may take relief under Rule 16.1b if an immovable obstruction within 2 club lengths of the green intervenes on the line of play and the obstruction is within 2 club lengths of the ball.”

Note that the rule doesn't mention anything about intent.  Meaning, the sprinkler heads would interfere if you putted but not if you can chip over the sprinkler heads.  Doesn't matter, it's on a reasonable line of play for any club or swing, free relief is granted. And since the sprinkler heads are in the rough or green fringe and therefore are in the General Area, the Free Relief area does NOT include the green, you rememmmber?  Quiz question #8.

EMGA – EMGA Support to EGC Junior Golf Camps.

; -webkit-text-stroke-width:0px; margin:0px”>Members,

A key credential of the EMGA is our annual support to the EGC Junior Golf Camps held each year in June at the Eisenhower Golf Course.  The camps will be held at the Cadet Practice area just next to the Silver Course first tee.  The camps are comprised of two one-week programs.  Specific dates are  June 1-5 June and June 22-26 June..

For the week of 1 June, we need two volunteers each day to man the sign in tables and assist with other duties from 0830 until 1100.   For the week of 22 June, we again need two volunteers each day to perform the same duties from 0830 until 1100.

As in the past we are asking our members to volunteer their time on any day or days during these camps to help give back for the future of our great game.  Please contact Marty Bunker at 719 339-1211 or send him an email at [email protected] to request a slot(s).  The EGC staff is most appreciative of our support to this worthwhile cause as are the kids who are eager to learn and enjoy this fine game.

EMGA – 21 April 2026 OPC Results

Members,

Attached are the results from today's OPC on the Silver course.  We had 79 players, 5 net flights, and a purse of $474.

For those of you who read the GG text, we had two added instructions.  One was for preferred lies for today and the other was to snap a photo of your scorecard and text it.  We had 19 of 22 groups send the text.  Thanks, it saves time from having someone stay until the last group to collect all the scorecards.  We will do this again during OPCs.

Good Pace of Play for most groups, and most groups filled out the scorecard correctly.

Silver Ringers leaderboards are on the Portal page and Ike Cup leaderboards coming out later.

The next round is an OPC on the Blue course, Thursday, 30 April.  Signups start tonight at 7pm.

Please let us know if you have any questions.  Thanks.

EMGA – OPC Signup Process for 30 April

Members,

This is your reminder for the Thursday, 30 April 2026 Open Play Competition (OPC) signups.

OPC:  Thursday, 30 April on the Blue Course (first tee time at 0730).

Signups start on Tuesday, 21 April at exactly 1900 hours (7PM).

Tee times for OPCs open on Tuesdays precisely at 7:00 PM (1900). Early tee times are highly competitive. If you log in 10 seconds after 7PM, then you are already late. No member has an advantage over another—everyone has equal access once the system opens.

Instructions:

1.  Tee Time reservations will open on Tuesday night at 7PM (1900).

2.  Sign in to the EMGA Portal page (egc-2026emga.golfgenius.com) with your username and password.  The tee sheet will open up exactly at 7:00 PM.  If you enter the site sooner, you may need to refresh your browser before seeing the tee sheet.

3.  On the portal page, go to the Tee Sheet section, and then select “Open Tee Time Registration.”

4.  Select the time you want to play.

5.  You'll be able to sign up as a single, twosome, threesome or foursome.

6.  If signing up for more than just yourself, you'll need to know the names of the other players in advance of making the tee time.  Once a name is added, no other player can select that same person (his name will be grayed out).  When finished signing up, please hit “Done” to save your tee time. You'll receive a confirmation email (it's not immediate, but it does come).

7.  After hitting the “Done” button, if you did not sign up for all four slots, the remaining slots will be open for others.

8.  If you are the initiator of the tee time and have added other players, those players are now “coupled” to you and tied to your reservation.  For a player to “decouple” themselves from the initiator, they need to first Cancel their name from the reservation before selecting any other tee time.  Do not just try to move yourself, you'll still be coupled to the initiator.

9.  When signups have not yet been closed, members can return to the Open Tee Time Registration page to cancel their registration.

10.  Signups close at 6PM on the night two days prior to the OPC.  After that time, if you need to make any changes, please text either John Henninger (719) 237-1700 or Larry Walker (719) 661-2496.

EMGA – Paper Scorecards

Members,

Please take a moment to review the attached paper scorecard.

We don't ask for much, but please have the following on your paper scorecard:

1. Names of players

2. Teeing Area for the players.  Since we allow for members to play from any set of teeing areas during an OPC, it becomes imperative that this information is captured. (For combo tees, the longer tees are first, Green/White (G/W), White/Gold (W/G), Gold/Silver (G/S))

3. Start Time – when the first player tees off.

4. End Time – when the last putt is made for the group.

5. Signatures

When starting and ending times are not recorded, it becomes more difficult to identify where bottlenecks are occurring. We appreciate your attention to this. While the electronic system can capture player names, teeing areas and scores, it does not capture signatures or times. Additionally, we are still seeing operator errors (mainly fat-fingering the wrong score or not capturing the correct teeing area) when using the Golf Genius app. The paper scorecard is used to verify the electronics.  Thank you for your efforts.
