Home & Away Match with Valley Country Club – Thursday, 16 May

Gentlemen,

This is the announcement for our H&A match with Valley Country Club. We will play our HOME Match with Valley Country Club on Thursday, 16 May.  The AWAY Match will be played at the Valley Country Club on Wednesday, 22 May. The cost to play in this match will be $125. If you’re interested in playing in this match, please go to the EMGA Portal Page, sign in with your username and password, and select the Valley H&A showing on the left-hand side of the opening page under Upcoming Rounds.  By selecting the Home date for Valley, you’re signing up for both the Home and Away dates. You may notice this H&A match will be played during our 16 May OPC and you can receive “credit” for the OPC, the appropriate Ringer and the Ike Cup when you play in the H&A match too, so don’t let this conflict deter you from playing in this match.

Once we select the team for this match, I’ll send out an announcement naming the players for this match.  After that announcement, please pay for this match with a check for $125.  Please make out the check to “EMGA” and in the Memo section, write “Valley H&A”. You can drop your check in the EMGA Check Box, located in the Men’s room at the Club House, or give it to Barry Patterson, Abe Oros, or John Hayes.

For those new members this year, here is a little more information about our H&A matches.  During our matches, we all wear the same color shirt so we’ll be identified as a team.  There are three EMGA colored (red, white, and blue) shirts available for purchase through Don Becker, another longtime member of the EMGA.  We like it if you have the EMGA logo shirts, but they are not mandatory.  You can wear whatever shirt you have, but please try to wear one in the same color as the rest of the team.  We always have a separate Skins game and usually each player pays $5 to enter it.  It’s not mandatory and some players choose not to participate.  Someone (usually me) will collect $5 (correct change always appreciated) from each of you for the Skins game. Lunch will be served after the match while the scores are being tabulated. After everything is set up, the host team will announce the winners and hand out gift cards for the winners and cash for the winners of Skins. For our home matches, we’ll have coffee, juices, pastries, and bagels the morning of the match, and the driving range will be available. If you are not an Annual Green Fees member, you will need to pay your green fees in the Pro Shop before play. Everyone is entered in the Hole-in-One contest, so you do not need to sign up for that. After the match, we’ll all gather in the club house and have lunch while the scores are being entered into Golf Genius.  Afterwards, winners will be announced and prizes awarded.  Because we are playing our Home Match on the same day as the “regular” EMGA OPC round, the round you play that day against Valley can also be counted towards the OPC match and qualify for a round in the Ike Cup and Silver Ringer Tournament.  If you want to count this round in the OPC and get credit for the Ike Cup and Silver Ringers, you need to pay your $5 (or $6 if you also wish to enter the gross skins) as you usually would if you were just playing in the OPC.  Someone will be around to collect your $5/6 if you want to enter.

The AWAY Match will be played on Wednesday, 22 May and a reminder for that match will be sent out later.
