Gentlemen,

Today’s cancelled OPC round was supposed to be on the Blue course.  And for those that read Theo’s email he sent out this morning, you saw where EGC maintenance will be punching the Blue greens on Tuesday, May 12^th.  Thus, we have been moved from the Blue to the Silver Course for our OPC that day.  The impact is all four of our rounds in May will now be on the Silver Course plus our round last week was also on the Silver. 

While none of us enjoy playing 5 EMGA events in a row on the same course, our primary driver is to maintain a season long balance of play between the two courses.  To accomplish this, we moved the Thursday, June 11 and the Thursday, August 20^th OPCs from Silver to Blue.  The updated schedule is attached and here are some stats on how we are maintaining that balance.

• After today’s cancellation, we now have a total of 37 rounds this season with 18 on the Silver and 19 on the Blue. 
• Since there are only 3 of them, the only type of play without a 50/50 split is our Open Play rounds (one back on March 19^th and the two in November).  We have one on the Silver and two one the Blue.
• There are 20 OPCs and 18 Ike Cup rounds evenly split 10/10 and 9/9 respectively on the Blue and Silver courses
• Both the Blue and Silver Ringers also have 9 rounds each
• There are 12 tournament rounds: 4 each Individual, TwoMan, and ABCD (four-man) with two rounds for each on the Blue and two rounds for each on the Silver.
• For those playing in the Home and Aways though, 7 of those 9 rounds will be on the Blue course.

With respect to alternating courses, we will have 1 three-week streak of Blue courses; 3 two-week streaks of Blue courses, and 1 two-week streak of Silver courses.  We hope you will understand why this has to happen to maintain an equal balance in all our various competition types this season.

Sign-ups are now open for our first breakfast meeting of the year – the Memorial Breakfast and General Membership Meeting.  It is 3 weeks from today on Thursday, May 21^st at 0730, followed by an 0845 shotgun start on the Silver course for our ABCD Scramble tournament.

Sign-ups will close at 1800 on Monday, May 18^th as we owe a final count to the EGC catering staff first thing Tuesday morning, May 19^th.

There is no cost to you to attend the breakfast meeting – it is part of your dues.  Nor is there a requirement to play in the tournament to attend the breakfast; or to attend the breakfast to play in the tournament.  However, we hope as many members as possible attend the breakfast meeting as we will be recognizing members, and/or family members, who have passed away during the last year; voting on our new constitution (details to follow); and opening the floor for questions about the 2026 season.

We opened sign-ups out of cycle from the normal Tuesdays at 1900 for OPCs and tournaments since you must sign up for the breakfast separate from the ABCD Scramble.  The process is the same though – go to the portal page at egc-2026emga.golfgenius.com.  .Under the Memorial Breakfast name on the left side of the page, click on “Sign Up”.  On the next page, click on the “I acknowledge that Golf Genius . . . ” box, then click on Sign-up at the bottom right.

Morning All, 

We had quite a few players change declared tees over the past month, and want to validate we have your correct tournament tee in the system.

Your delcared tees for tournaments as of today are listed below.  If your tee is correct, no action is required.  If you'd like to change your declared tee, or if your tee is incorrect, please let me know by next Tue, 5 May, prior to our 7 May tournament.  

As a reminder, we use declared tees for tournaments only; OPCs still allow you to change tees as often as you'd like. 

Also, sign-ups for next week's Gold/Silver Individual tournament remain open until 1800 next Tue.  To sign-up, go to the portal at egc-2026emga.golfgeniuscom , click on Sign-Up on the left side of the page, click on the “acknowledge” box, and then click on sign-up on the lower left.  We'll send out a last-call note on Sunday with a list confirming who has signed-up to play.

Don't Miss Out on Club Tournaments! Want to play in the End of The Year Shootout and or Canon Cup? BIG Points on the line for upcoming EGC Tournaments.

Men's Individual Match Play ($50) – Group Staging May 9th & 10th. 9-Hole Matches Within Your Flight: First, Second, & Wildcards get paid out and move on to the bracket round. Advanced Tee Times Available for Bracket Round Play.

FourBall Match Play ($40 a player) – Pick your partner and compete within your Flight in a Double-Elimination Bracket, until 1 team remains at the end of the season. Advanced Tee Times Available for this Match Play as well, club will find you a partner if you don't have one. 

Blue & Silver Cup (EGC Member/Member) $150 a player – June 13th & 14th. Must be a member at Eisenhower, spouses & families welcome to attend Saturday Festivities ($30 Saturday BBQ). Registration Closes June 10th at 1900.

Ike's Invitational (EGC Member/Guest) $375 a player – July 24th to July 26th. Must be a member at Eisenhower, guest cannot play 10 or more rounds at Eisenhower. Spouses and families welcome to attend Friday BBQ – $30. Registration Closes June 19th at 1900

We often use the term “handicap,” but there is sometimes confusion regarding its specific definitions. I am frequently asked for clarification, so I have provided a brief explanation of the key terms below:

Handicap Index

Your Handicap Index is calculated using the best 8 of your last 20 scores. It represents your potential ability rather than your average score. When a new score is posted, the oldest score drops off and a new index is computed.

Course Handicap

Your Course Handicap is based on your Handicap Index and the difficulty of the course. A more difficult course results in a higher Course Handicap. For example, at Eisenhower, moving from the gold tees to the white tees represents a more difficult course, resulting in a higher Course Handicap.

Playing Handicap

Your Playing Handicap is determined by applying a handicap allowance to your Course Handicap. For OPCs, we use a 100% allowance, meaning your Course and Playing Handicaps are the same. For many other tournaments, we apply specific allowances to ensure fairness based on the competition format.

In short, your Course Handicap is the base number of strokes you receive, while your Playing Handicap is that number adjusted for the specific competition format.  There are equations for figuring all of this out, but your GHIN app already does all the heavy lifting.

Target Score

We should all strive to shoot our target score or better. Your target score is par plus your Course Handicap. Please keep in mind that most players typically play to their target score about 15-20% of the time. However, most of the time, if you hit your target score in one of our competitions, you're likely going to be in the money.

Note that balances highlighted in Red indicates insufficient funds to compete in OPCs or Optional Tournament Skins. Please add funds to your account if you wish to participate. Remember that OPCs costs $6 to compete and Optional Tournaments Skins costs $5.

If your amount is highlighted in Yellow then you have between $20 and $5 remaining.

If no amount is listed, you have not yet rejoined the league.
